Planting with the Brownies

sign for the brownie garden2nd Onslow Village Brownies joined us in spring 2026 to help re-plant the top flower bed by the entrance to the Orchard. The bed had originally been seeded with the Brownies help as a wildflower area in early 2022. It is now an ‘edible garden’ with strawberries, courgette, tomatoes, herbs (oregano, thyme, marjoram, rosemary and curry plant) and edible flowers - marigolds, pansies and nasturtiums – which will encourage bees and pollinators. The Brownies had a great session outside in early April, digging, planting, and sowing seeds together for their ‘Grow Your Own’ badge.

Their efforts paid off and the bed has flourished.  It has been a blaze of colour over the summer with brightly coloured flowers and an impressive show of tomatoes and courgettes.
